Lindsay Gottlieb, an American basketball coach for the USC Trojans of the Big Ten Conference, has a big brother, Chris Gottlieb, but she isn’t related to Doug Gottlieb.

Despite sharing the same surname, the basketball coach and the sports analyst are distinct. They only share a similar passion for basketball as coaches and former players.

Lindsay played basketball at Scarsdale High School and Brown University. Later, Syracuse Univeristy hired him as an assistant coach in 1999, and she moved to the University of Richmond.

On May 15, 2008, she replaced retiring long-time coach Mark French and became the head coach of the University of California, Santa Barbara. She was the first coach to win 20 games in her first season.

Similarly, on April 25, 2011, she returned to Berkeley as the ninth head coach of the Golden Bears and led her team to their first conference championship in California Women’s Basketball history.

Lindsay signed a four-year contract as an assistant coach with the Cleveland Cavaliers, making her the first NCAA women’s head coach hired by an NBA team.

She was named the women’s head coach at the University of Southern California on May 10, 2021.

Lindsay Gottlieb’s Brothers, Peter And Chris, Are Lawyers

Lindsay Catherine Gottlieb, the youngest child of Carol and Stephen Gottlieb, was born on October 2, 1977, in Scarsdale, New York. Her parents raised her alongside her three siblings.

She calls herself the black sheep of the family as most of her family members are lawyers. Law is the Gottlieb family business.

Lindsay’s brother, Chris, is a law professor at New York University, and people often stop in the hallways to ask him how the Bears are doing.

He’s sure anyone who has ever met their father knows what she does and how proud he is.

Her sports obsession was always evident. She was smart and thoughtful and I think we all knew she would be successful, but it didn’t occur to me, anyway, that it would be in sports. But maybe that’s because I don’t know anything about sports.

Lindsay’s elder brother, Peter Gottlieb, is a lawyer in New York. However, her sister, Suzy, broke the mold and became a veterinarian.

Her success is rooted in a solid familial foundation, especially the encouragement of her siblings, who have been essential in her development as a coach and player.

Similarly, her siblings often admired her leadership and success, including her historic move to the NBA as an assistant coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Despite their busy careers, the siblings remain close, occasionally referencing the importance of family in her coaching philosophy.

My big brother got married…in Paris!…so the crew and I hopped over there for a quick trip. 🇫🇷 c’est incroyable!

Lindsay Gottlieb Isn’t Related To Doug Gottlieb

Lindsay Gottlieb shares the same surname as renowned sports analyst Doug Gottlieb, but the two are unrelated.

Doug recently addressed this coincidence on Twitter, explicitly clarifying that he and Lindsay have no familial connection.

Shout out to new Cal coach Lindsay Gottlieb – not related but she is yet another Gottlieb who is a hoops Maven@ Cal.My bro Gregg the other.

As mentioned earlier, most of Lindsay Gottlieb’s family members are lawyers, and her father, Stephen, was a New York state judge.

She followed her parents’ tradition and attended an Ivy League college, Brown University.

Sadly, her mother, Carol, passed away during her sophomore year, and she decided to spend a year studying abroad in Australia. Afterward, she decided to pursue a coaching career seriously.

I knew that it was the perfect thing for me because it combined kind of my nerdiness and love of the X’s and O’s with the ability to impact 18- to 22-year-olds in a really significant way. To be able to do what I love, basketball, and have this intense impact on people, I felt that was it.

Conversely, Douglas Mitchell Gottlieb, the son of Bob and Jane Gottlieb, was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on January 15, 1976. His parents raised her alongside his brother, Gregg, and his sister, Wendy.

Gregg is an assistant coach for the Grand Canyon Antelopes women’s basketball team. Wendy formerly worked in marketing for the Oakland Raiders and is currently involved in philanthropy in Northern California.

Just like Lindsay Gottlieb, they grew up in a Jewish household.

Doug’s father was the head coach of the Milwaukee Panthers men’s basketball team. Unfortunately, Bob passed away due to cancer in November 2014.

Numerous high school and collegiate basketball teams donned orange in remembrance of Bob after he posted about his father’s passing on Facebook.

Today marks 10 years since my dad, Bob Gottlieb, passed from complications with cancer. I tell all my friends the same thing for the last 10 years… if you can, call him, tell him why you love him. RIP Big Bob!
