Bryce Underwood, an American college football quarterback for the Michigan Wolverines, credits his parents, Jaquan and Beverly Underwood, for his athletic success.

His parents’ constant dedication, guidance, and sacrifices have played a crucial role in shaping him into the top-tier prospect he is today.

Bryce began playing football at Belleville High School and led his team to a Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) state championship.

He was named the Michigan Associated Press Division 1-2 Player of the Year and MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year.

He led his high school team to a third consecutive state championship appearance, and the state media voted him the Michigan High School Football Player of the Year.

This is a dream come true and a blessing, definitely. Without God, I wouldn’t be where I’m at. I appreciate everything you guys have done and given to me and stuff like that, so thank you.

Bryce was awarded the Michigan Gatorade Player of the Year and rated as a five-star recruit, the No. 1 quarterback, and the No. 1 overall player in the class of 2025.

On January 6, 2024, he committed to play college football for the LSU Tigers but flipped his decision to the Michigan Wolverines on November 21, 2024.

He was an early enrollee admitted to the University of Michigan and began practicing with the 2024 Michigan Wolverines in preparation for the ReliaQuest Bowl.

Bryce Underwood’s Parents Supported His Athletic Career

Bryce Jay Underwood, the son of Jay and Beverly Underwood, was born on August 19, 2007, in Detroit, Michigan. His parents raised him alongside his sister, Jayce Underwood.

From a young age, he displayed an exceptional aptitude for football, and his parents ensured he had the resources and opportunities to thrive.

Bryce’s parents enrolled him in youth football leagues, where his natural arm talent and football IQ quickly set him apart.

Jaquan is on the Belleville coaching staff and sees his son’s impact on his teammates daily. He took an active role in his training, working with him on mechanics, footwork, and film study.

It was great. My son put countless hours in with his football team. Just on and off (the field), just being great and trying to push himself and motivate himself and others. Just to know he was even nominated for this opportunity was just a great thing.

On the other hand, Beverly ensured that Bryce stayed disciplined with his academics, understanding that success in the classroom was just as critical as on the field.

She watched her son grow into one of the state’s top prospects, and throughout the journey, she never saw an adverse change in her son’s character.

Bryce’s parents are surprised and consistently over the moon about their son’s recognition. Beverly has addressed their sacrifices to make Bryce the athlete he is today.

Bryce Underwood Uses NIL To Get Benefits For His Parents

As mentioned earlier, Bryce Underwood initially committed to play college football for the LSU Tigers but flipped his commitment after his senior season to the Michigan Wolverines.

Initially, the Underwood family had denied the NIL money offered to them and stayed true to their commitment as they aimed for the NFL.

Bryce was more interested in heading to the NFL than earning NIL money.

Before his senior year, his valuation was NIL at $496k, which likely increased before he reached college.

The Underwood family mentioned that top recruiters were willing to pay extra cash for the recruit, even though they knew about Bryce’s commitment to LSU. They declined the offer from the program as they continued to commit to LSU football.

However, he decided to play under head coach Sherrone Moore at the Michigan Wolverines, staying in-state on November 21, 2024.

ESPN, On3, and 247Sports ranked him as the nation’s No. 1 high school football player during his 2025 college football recruiting class commitment.

Bryce’s NIL deal included a partnership with Feldman Chevrolet of Highland, and he received a 2025 Tahoe RST, which cost around $70,000.

He wasn’t the only vehicle recipient from this partnership; his parents also received brand-new vehicles.

Feldman’s Instagram video showed Jaquan climbing into a brand-new Chevrolet Silverado High Country, whereas Beverly did not reveal which vehicle she received in the deal.

Bryce’s parents might have influenced his college decision. As NIL has evolved, many athletes have started incorporating rewards for their family members into their relationships.
